Our Story and Approach to Care

Dr. Bojana (Boy•ana) Jankovic Weatherly is an award-winning physician, a fellow of the American College of Physicians and double board-certified in internal and integrative medicine. Dr. Bojana has been practicing medicine for over a decade.

After completing an internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai, she did a fellowship in integrative medicine and completed training and certification in functional medicine. Her training also includes nutrition, mind-body medicine, and mindfulness.

After residency, she practiced as a primary care physician and general internist, but after several years of working with patients with chronic disease, she recognized an opportunity and a need to significantly improve the quality of care and her patients’ outcomes by incorporating integrative, functional medicine and mind-body modalities. This ultimately led her to develop the unique approach that is practiced at BOJANA MD to care for and empower their patients to reach their best health.

She started BOJANA MD to partner with patients to discover and address the root causes of their conditions and guide them through individualized plans to support and empower each unique individual to achieve their health goals.

This approach is not just multidisciplinary, it is highly individualized and rooted in evidence-based medicine. Patients work with BOJANA MD to address and optimize their digestive health (including IBS, SIBO, bloating, chronic constipation or diarrhea), Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and hypothyroidism, metabolic and cardiovascular health, weight, anxiety and stress, hormone health, and energy levels among many other conditions commonly addressed by an internist.

They want to optimize their physical and mental health so they can feel their best, maximally enjoy time with their loved ones, thrive in their careers, and pursue their interests.

Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly and our Integrative Health Advisor develop evidence-informed, customized diagnostic and treatment plans based on individual needs.

In partnering with patients, BOJANA MD team cultivates an atmosphere of open and honest communication and meeting each individual where they are with respect to their unique goals and needs. Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly regularly attends conferences, engages in continuing medical education, and works with mentors and colleagues to continue to be able to deliver the highest quality, innovative care for her patients at the intersection of modern medicine, integrative and functional medicine.

She also teaches integrative medicine fellowship physicians at the University of Arizona and mentors physicians and healthcare professionals.

BOJANA MD Approach to Care

As an evidence-informed integrative medicine practice, our framework is rooted in a personalized approach to each patient – we take a deep dive into your personal and medical story, family history, lifestyle, nutrition and environment.

We implement the best of evidence-based and evidence-informed modalities that Western, Integrative, and Functional Medicine have to offer.

We then tailor these to meet your needs and goals while considering benefit vs risk, level of evidence, your personal goals, and values.

My goal is to support your health and wellbeing through evidence-informed approaches that are tailored to you. Through this process, our team-based, educational approach will allow you to feel empowered and make informed decisions about your health.

What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative medicine is an approach that incorporates the most-effective, evidence-based modalities from Western medicine, nutrition, complementary medicine and mind-body modalities.

While we prescribe Western medications and modalities when necessary, our strategy is guided by how to help your body to get back into balance as naturally as possible. This is usually largely done through addressing your lifestyle and nutrition, stress management, sleep, relationships and connection to meaning and purpose, and supporting you by creating an approach that is unique to you.

This can include a targeted supplement regimen, herbs and acupuncture alongside a specific nutrition plan and certain lifestyle practices to help optimize your short and long term health. Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly completed a two year integrative medicine fellowship training founded by Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona and she is board-certified in integrative medicine.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is rooted in a personalized, patient-centered, scientific approach that relies on our understanding of each unique individual’s genetic, biochemical and lifestyle factors.

This approach involves analysis of detailed physiological and biochemical markers that guide our treatment plans. Functional medicine improves patient outcomes by not only treating symptoms but doing the comprehensive investigative analysis to get to the root cause(s) and triggers of symptoms.

Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly completed functional medicine training provided by the Institute of Functional Medicine and is a certified functional medicine practitioner.

What is Internal Medicine?

Internal medicine is a discipline of medicine that focuses on treating adults by utilizing the highest quality of medical evidence available. In the United States, an internist is required to complete a three-year residency training after graduating from medical school. After residency, an internist may choose to practice primary care as a general internal medicine doctor or subspecialize in a discipline (such as cardiology or gastroenterology).

Internists provide a wide scope of care to their patients, ranging from preventative care to caring for patients with multiple complex medical conditions.

Internists are sometimes referred to as the “doctor’s doctor,” because they are often consulted by other physicians to help solve challenging diagnostic dilemmas. Adapted from American College of Physicians (ACP) website.

Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly completed internal medicine training at Cedars-Sinai and West LA Veterans Affairs and is a board- certified internal medicine physician.

Why This Approach?

After years of evidence-based research, conventional medical practice, and through personal experiences of being a patient and a patient’s advocate, Dr. Bojana Jankovic Weatherly realized some of the limitations of the conventional approach in medicine.

Modern medicine is necessary, continues to innovate and delivers tremendous breakthroughs in therapy. The conventional approach, however, is often insufficient when it comes to uncovering and addressing the root causes of our chronic conditions, and ultimately treating these conditions. It is reactive, rather than proactive, and often focuses on isolated problems, rather than interrelatedness of our body’s systems and prevention.

At BOJANA MD, we do the necessary lab work up to better understand your condition. That being said, we treat you, the person, not just the condition(s) you may have. We consider all of the data points in the context of you and your history.

We listen to you, we do the detective work, we partner with you to fully understand your story, your goals and values, your risk factors, root causes of your conditions and how your mind and body are affected.

We incorporate nutrition, lifestyle, integrative, mind-body, conventional and functional medicine modalities to help you achieve the best health outcomes possible for you. In our work together, we empower you to be proactive – to be the CEO of your health.

I have plenty of experience with similar struggles, both personally and through my work with patients.

I’ve obtained extra training to be able to help myself and others through these challenges. Through my medical training, countless workshops, learning from mentors, reading relevant books and research studies, and closely observing strategies that helped me and my patients, I have been able to identify key elements that support health and balance.

And most importantly, I’ve also learned how to introduce these elements in a manageable way.

My approach has helped many of my patients, friends, readers and myself achieve a state of balance.

By joining my wellness community, you can learn to support your mind and body health and be fully present for your life. I am licensed in New York, Connecticut, California, Florida, and New Jersey.

I know that making yourself and your health a priority is not easy (trust me, I continue to work on it every day, and have yet to meet someone who has it 100% figured out!)

Many people feel guilty about carving out time for their health habits such as exercise, sleep and meditation because they are torn between many different work and personal obligations.
